Listening to NPR this morning I heard Pete Overby report on some unusal spending on the part of the RNC.
From the article:
“It’s only Tuesday and it’s already been a busy week for the Republican National Committee. The RNC has been in damage-control mode after its monthly financial report was discovered to include a $1,900 tab run up by some of the donors at a topless nightclub.”
The actual broadcast seems to suggest that “strip club” is a bit of an understatment. The tab in question was run up at more of a fancy fettish establishment than a titty bar. Makes me wonder if that massive tab wasn’t just drinks, maybe some other services were utilized.
Of course, this is the most sensationalized facet of the greater issue. Read the rest of the stoy too see extravagent spending by the RNC for several other luxuries for it’s members. You’ll get much more out of listening to the report, the transcripts lack.
It just strikes me that the spending Republicans like to complain about in governement they don’t mind doing in their own lives. I’m sure this sort of disconnect between practice and preach goes on with all parties, but the Republicans’ constant pandering to the moral majority makes infractions like this all the more open to wider criticism.
