Please be warned. The images and video on Blog del Narco are VERY graphic and should only be viewed by those who feel they can handle such things. It’s important that these things are up both as a protest to the world’s innaction in these affairs and also as a blatant representation of the truth of the awful situation.
Boing Boing recently did a story on Blog del Narco, a blog that updates the gritty reality of the Mexican Drug War. As things have escalated in Mexica to the point that the media is scared to report what’s happening (grenades were recently thrown into a TV station in Monterray as punishment for reporting on the war) it’s necessary for citizens to inform the rest of the world of the reality of their real-life situations.
It is abolutley ridiculous to me that we canĀ do what we’re doing in the Middle East under the pretense of restoring order and installing democracy and not intervene in Mexico. Even if 9/11 and Vietnam had never happened and we weren’t in the “democracy spreading” business, wouldn’t it still be prudnet to do something to help our physical neighbors to the south restore order? With a military philosophy of preemptive action, wouldn’t it make the most sense to take military precautions with a war raging just a few hours from American borders? We spend more time, money, and man power trying to keep the oppressed and terrified citizens of Mexico from escaping their personal hell and seeking refuge in America (something that the Statue of Liberty claims we’re supposed to do) then we do trying to alleviate the pain of our ACTUAL NEIGHBORS.
But beyond government action, remember that this is a DRUG WAR that has to be stopped. As I’ve said before, stop buying the product that fuels these atrocities until it can be legalized, regulated, and taxed accordingly.
